Enjoy Mexican and Central American Independence Days! From all that I can gather right now, Julian s famed apple crop is the smallest in many years. What we so loosely refer to as nature, the elements and weather combine to set the stage for pollinators (thank all the bees, please!) to pollinate the fruit in the spring. We could name many things that happened this growing season, the result has been fruit on fewer trees.
Here at "Peacefield" located in Wynola @ 3803 Wynola Road, I literally have got fruit on 1 out of 6 trees this year. While my trees bearing reds and golds are very old and large, there are barely enough to satisfy fewer pickers who make a reservation to pick. On each tree, fruit ripen as the days and weeks go by, not all at once. We orchardists have to instruct pickers in selecting fruit that is ripe
so that the fruit that is not fully ripe, ripening or unripe stay on the tree to ripen further.
Please believe me, we love and wish to see as many young hands be able to lift a fruit, not grab and twist, as we possibly can. We have to resort to tech, in this case this website
to help us to get you here and picking. If we cannot do that this year, we hope that you enjoy
the many other great outdoor activities that eastern San Diego has to offer. The fall listings and
visitjulian.com can help you find and get there! We fully expect that next year's crop be average
if not more "fruitful". Of course for those of you can make it this year please bear with us.
Here is the thing: text or email me to reserve to pick reds and golds while they last here
in the remaining weekends of September 2024. Text or email me to reserve a time to pick
green firm tart Granny Smiths in the weekends in October. Check with Crosscut if still reserving.
Very important: Times to pick are Saturday or Sunday 10 or 11 am. Saturday or Sunday 12 or 1 pm
Again, we wish you the best fall season ever, we just have to work with the trees to get you picking.
